Holiday Accommodation with a Difference

Generally the public know what to expect when they book into a hotel or holiday park.  Maybe a change of scenery appeals or something a bit different to the normal holiday trip, look around there are plenty of strange and quirky alternatives.

The best way to find something a little different is to head off to the internet; there are a number of companies catering for this type of holiday.

The Chapel of Rest, Derbyshire

This Chapel of Rest is a romantic converted Chapel of Rest!  Standing in a graveyard it is not for the faint-hearted.  With a hymn board and church pew it fits perfectly with the Gothic style.  However it is not the place to wake up in the early hours and start thinking about who may have slept there before.

The House in the Clouds, Kent

This 7 story house started life as a water tank built to supply the local village.  Standing 70 feet high it was a blot on the landscape so it was disguised as a house and because of its height became the House in the Clouds.  The property sleeps 10 people in 5 bedrooms and has 3 bathrooms.

Cave Houses, Andalucia, Spain

For those who fancy becoming Fred Flintstone these authentic cave houses in Andalucia are perfect.  Both houses have been refurbished and offer guest a chance to really step back in time.

The Harlingen Harbour Crane, Holland

This is a real dockland crane that has been turned into a luxury room for guests.  It stands next to the Wadden Sea with views across the harbour; but it does not end there the whole crane can be turned around using the old mechanism so the visitor can be a view they like.  Now that is odd!

Das Park Pipe Hotel, Germany

Standing on the banks of the River Danube these pipes literally house 1 double bed.  The holiday park looks like the sewerage pipe layers have gone off and left their extra large concrete sewage pipes scattered along the bank of the river.  The rooms are literally the blanked off pipe with a door on the other end.  It really is as simple as that.

Belrepayre Airstream Trailer Park, France

The Airstream trailers, or caravans to those in the UK, are very retro with a finish of polished aluminium.  First introduced in the late 1920's in the USA they quickly became a cult.  For the chance to stay in one of these trailers there is a trailer park in Belrepayre in the south of France and rent one.  Do not worry though it is not a huge holiday park but a small area housing only 9 Airstream trailers.

These are just a few of the strange places to sleep, there are many more to satisfy even the weirdest of tastes.
